The world’s growing infrastructure presents countless demands and opportunities for civil engineers. If you’re motivated to solve the engineering challenges of the 21st century, our Master of Science in Civil Engineering degree program can teach you the problem-solving skills and technical knowledge expected of today’s industry leaders.

Having a master’s degree in civil engineering improves your employment prospects and your potential wage earnings. It is commonly considered a necessary step in getting licensed as a professional engineer.

A sample of the research being done by faculty and students includes: computational mechanics, sustainable design and construction, river restoration, membrane processes for environmental treatment, and precision composite structures. Please see the Research tab for additional information about the research being conducted in the department.

The MSCE requires 32 credits: 24 credits of coursework, 2 credits of graduate seminar (CE 691), and a minimum of 6 credits of thesis (CE 599). This degree is thesis-based only.

Concentrations are available in six areas:

Minimum of a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a U.S. 4.0 scale or comparable grade point average in upper-division (junior and senior level) university course work and in any graduate work already completed. TOEFL (internet-based) 79, TOEFL (paper-based) 550, IELTS 6.5, Pearson Test of English 53.
