The Department of Music offers performers, scholars, and composers a stimulating and exciting environment in which to develop their talents in the performance, creation, and academic study of music. The faculty is comprised of internationally known soloists, ensemble musicians, orchestral players, composers, music theorists, and historical musicologists committed to preparing students for careers in music. Our goal is to provide a diverse array of courses that will help students build strong foundations in music.
In addition to offering weekly studio lessons, faculty direct performance initiatives at the University and throughout the local community, provide students with unique performance opportunities in western New York. The department hosts world-renowned visiting artists throughout the year, offering students free admission to a full season of concerts and the opportunity to participate in guest master classes.
The Department of Music hosts over 150 events annually, showcasing internationally recognized visiting artists and lecturers.
Learning Outcomes
•Students will acquire strong foundations in Performance, Composition, Musicology, and Music Theory.
•Students will develop their talents and skills in solo performance and ensemble playing in a variety of public venues.
•Students will become adept performers in small chamber or jazz ensembles and larger orchestral, wind, brass, and jazz ensembles.
•Students will demonstrate the ability to engage with communities and create cultural and musical awareness by means of performing in public places throughout the city of Buffalo and at the University at Buffalo.
•The composition, music history, and music theory curriculum exposes students to innovative approaches to creating music, music analysis and understanding the historical and cultural importance of music.
•Students will be able to pursue careers in performance, teaching, and be well positioned to pursue advanced degrees in composition, musicology, and music theory.
•Given our strengths in contemporary music, students will have many opportunities to start their careers in music’s leading edge as performers, composers, and scholars.
Career Outlook
Most music students continue their studies at the master's level, and some continue on to the doctorate. Some of the following career opportunities require advanced degrees, while others may be possible with only the bachelor's degree.

为来自中国的学生设计 Admission to UB’s freshman class is selective and is based in part on the quality of your secondary school academic record and the number of spaces available in the class. You should feel confident applying to UB if you have an above-average academic record and have taken challenging courses in high school to help prepare you to be successful at university. UB uses a 4.0 grading scale and we expect students applying here to have the equivalent of a 3.0 on that scale. That is the same as a grade of B or 83 on a 100-point scale. English Language Scores: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 70, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 523, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.0, the minimum score of PTE is 50, CAEL 70, CanTEST 4.5, Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) score 185; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score 185, IB Higher Level English a Literature 4, IB Higher Level English a Language and Literature 4.课程信息
