专业概况

在这里学什么？ This programme enables you to study two major European languages in the context of the histories, literatures, cultures and societies of the many countries, worldwide, in which they're spoken. Through intense training in both French and German, you have the opportunity to acquire near-native fluency and to develop your professional speaking, presentation, writing and translation skills. You'll also gain the broad cultural education prized by graduate employers. Both languages rank in the world's 20 most widely spoken, and have had a profound international cultural influence. In Europe, more people speak German as their native language than any other, while French extends beyond Europe to large parts of Africa and to Canada. Alongside intensive study of French and German, you will explore Francophone and German-language culture – literature, cinema, fascinating political history and philosophical ideas. We can offer you a wide range of courses spanning the Middle Ages to the 21st century, including specialist options taught by leading experts in their field. Uniquely in Scotland, studying at Edinburgh enables you to take a full year abroad as part of your four-year undergraduate programme, either studying, teaching or working. You'll therefore spend Year 3 in countries where French and German are spoken. Another attractive characteristic of this programme is its flexibility. This means that in Years 1 and 2, you’ll choose option courses drawn from a broad list of disciplines in addition to your core subjects.
