Career opportunities

Registered nurses (RNs) care for patients, providing them with treatment, counseling and education. RNs work closely with a patient’s physicians and other health professionals as part of the healthcare team. Depending on their area of specialization and work setting, RNs perform some or all of the following:

• develop and implement individualized plans for a patient’s care.
• monitor and record patients’ needs and changing conditions.
• administer prescribed medications and treatments.
• educate individuals on self-care, including maintaining health and preventing illness/injury.

With a Master's or Doctoral Degree, you could also become a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthetist, Nurse Midwife, or an Advanced Practice Nurse.

为来自中国的学生设计 Admission to a Virginia Commonwealth University undergraduate degree program requires graduation from a secondary school or the equivalent (lyceum, senior middle school, university preparatory school, completion of GCSE exams, Standard 12 graduation, etc.), which typically consists of at least 12 years beyond kindergarten. Your secondary education should be the type that would prepare you for entrance to a recognized university in your home country. The required TOEFL score for undergraduate applicants is 70 iBT with the exception of the College of Engineering where the TOEFL score would remain at 80 on iBT; Reading 13-18, Listening 12-19 and Writing 21-23 PBT; or IELTS of 6.0 (academic band score) and 6.5 for Engineering. The required PTE score is 53.
