专业概况
在这里学什么?After completing two years of coursework students may audition/interview for the BFA track in Theatre. The BFA track includes several concentrations including: Performance, Design/Technology, and Stage Management. Students in the BFA programs will receive a more specialized education (opposed to the broad-based liberal arts education supported by the BA), focusing on their area of concentration.
Performance
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with a concentration in performance includes classes in acting, movement, improvisation, stage combat, voice/speech and dialects, and acting for the camera in addition to other theatre related courses.
Classes in musical theatre performance can be substituted for some upper level classes for students desiring more training in musical theatre.
Performance students are given many opportunities to act in our mainstage productions and to build their skills and resume before graduation. Our department also has a working relationship with Virginia Repertory Theatre—VCU students are given many opportunities to be considered for paid positions.
Design/Technology
At VCUarts Theatre, we offer a BFA in Theatre with Concentrations available in Costume Design / Technical Production, Scenic Design / Technical Production, and Lighting Design / Technical Production.
Under the supervision of a professional faculty and staff, students receive intense individualized attention in small studio classes as well as practical experience on realized productions.
Our Scenic, Costume and Lighting tracks emphasize critical and creative thinking, artistic vision and practical solutions. In addition to design, additional courses and practical work are offered in many areas, including sound design, sound mixing and technology, multimedia, prop construction, technical direction, project management, scenic painting, stage makeup and wig design, rigging, welding, computer-aided design and drafting, projections, life drawing, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, pattern making, millinery, and rendering techniques among others.
Stage Management
The BFA in Stage Management program provides a professionally intense production oriented program for students serious about entering the field of stage management. Under the supervision of an Equity Stage Manager, students are mentored from the start to become well-organized, efficient and creative leaders.
Stage Management majors are given full responsibility for mainstage productions after successfully completing the program’s prerequisites.
