Why study Pharmaceutical Sciences BS/MS at UB?

The BS/MS is a five-year, accelerated program for academically qualified students who are already enrolled in our BS Pharmaceutical Sciences degree in our program. Students completing this program will be awarded two degrees: The B.S and M.S. degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Graduates of this program are highly sought after by pharmaceutical companies.

While the major is structurally a basic science program, it is also a unique interdisciplinary field. Areas of interest in pharmaceutical sciences range from the physical chemistry of pharmaceutical systems; to biopharmaceutics, which encompasses the study of the relationship between the nature and intensity of biologic effects of drugs and various dosage formulation factors; to pharmacokinetics, which is the science of the quantitative analysis of drug concentration and drug effects in the body; to clinical pharmacokinetics, which is concerned with the application of pharmacokinetics to the safe and effective therapeutic management of individual patients.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of all requirements, the student will have knowledge and skills to:

• Demonstrate a strong knowledge of fundamental scientific principles in the pharmaceutical sciences
• Define and apply the scientific method to an undergraduate pharmaceutical research project
• Demonstrate a mastery of basic research skills through a proficiency of:
• literature search skills and literature evaluation skills
• standard, basic laboratory techniques
• scientific calculations
• laboratory data record keeping and documentation
• Apply basic research skills to a contemporary, hands-on pharmaceutical research problem
• Demonstrate a basic proficiency at effective scientific oral and written communication skills through:
• Present an original oral podium presentation based on his/her undergraduate research project.
• Compose a scientific research paper based on his/her undergraduate and research project.
• Synthesize and present an original poster scientific presentation based on his/her undergraduate research project
• At the graduate level, satisfactory completion of a research project, including submission of a written project report, presentation of an open seminar, and oral defense.

The broad scope of scientific interest associated with the pharmaceutical sciences discipline provides students with an extensive vista of career opportunities. Pharmaceutical Sciences graduates may find opportunities in university, hospital, or pharmaceutical industry settings, including positions as:

为来自中国的学生设计 Admission to UB’s freshman class is selective and is based in part on the quality of your secondary school academic record and the number of spaces available in the class. You should feel confident applying to UB if you have an above-average academic record and have taken challenging courses in high school to help prepare you to be successful at university. UB uses a 4.0 grading scale and we expect students applying here to have the equivalent of a 3.0 on that scale. That is the same as a grade of B or 83 on a 100-point scale. English Language Scores: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 70, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 523, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.0, the minimum score of PTE is 50, CAEL 70, CanTEST 4.5, Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) score 185; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score 185, IB Higher Level English a Literature 4, IB Higher Level English a Language and Literature 4.
