专业概况

在这里学什么？

The Department of Media Study (DMS) is one of the country's leading programs in experimental and independent media. Our focus area is experimental and radical uses of media in the arts, and in society at large. DMS is renowned for its contributions to experimental film, video and sound art, theory and practice. The department is led by an award winning faculty with expertise in experimental film, video, sound, robotics, social media, games, interactive fiction, documentary practices, digital poetics and critical spatial practices. Our objective is to prepare students to shape the next generation of critical and experimental media in art, and society.

The MFA program encourages students to learn new media making skills and to produce work that challenges and extends conventional forms of media practice. Students finish their degree prepared to work as independent artists, media makers and/or producers for networks, studios, companies or nonprofits. Considered a terminal degree in the field, the MFA also allows the department’s graduates to teach in universities and colleges as professors or instructors. This program is appropriate for students whose primary focus is the process of media art making with a secondary focus on theorizing how their work is situated within the media field.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited/government recognized college or university. Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions. English Language Requirements: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 185.
