The Neuroscience Program is an interdisciplinary undertaking of research and education offering Doctoral and Master's Degrees. The program encompasses over 75 faculty members in clinical and basic science Departments throughout the University. The goal is to provide maximal academic flexibility that matches the broad scope of modern neuroscience. The emphasis is on interactions between five main areas: cellular and molecular mechanisms of nervous system function and dysfunction, development and plasticity, sensory systems, behavioral neurobiology, and translational medicine in the nervous system.

The MS in Neuroscience is generally a three or four semester program requiring completion of 30 credits. This includes core Neuroscience courses (NRS 520, 524, 601, and 602) recommended Neuroscience electives (e.g. BIO 506, BIO 517, BIO 518, PSY 513, PSY 751) plus additional elective graduate courses (e.g. BCH 503, BCH 512, BMS 501, PGY 505). Altogether this will add up to 20 didactic credits. The remaining credits can be additional didactic graduate course or research courses.

Entering MS students are assigned an academic advisor who will assist the student in tailoring a course curriculum.

Students are also encouraged to register for research rotation (NRS 560) in their first semester. This will enable them to select a laboratory and mentor and begin their thesis research before the beginning of their second semester.

Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions. English Language Requirements: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 185.
