2019年6月10号，上师大附二外美高部的升旗仪式由来自10年级的伍同学和熊同学主持。在庄严的升旗仪式后，唐同学为大家发表演讲，主题为“做一位海纳百川的人”。

The flag-raising ceremony on June 10 was hosted by Harry Wu and Janice Xiong from grade 10. After the solemn flag-raising ceremony, Jill Tang delivered a speech on the theme of "Being an open minded person".

唐同学首先解释了什么是海纳百川的人。她认为这样的人应该做到虚心听取各种人的想法，并仔细思考这些想法，从中借鉴可取之处;而不是轻视他人的想法，或对其进行武断地评价。

Jill Tang first explained what is an open minded person. She believes that such a person should listen to the ideas of all kinds of people and think about different opinions carefully to draw lessons from them, rather than belittling others' ideas or judging them arbitrarily.

当然，唐同学也提到了另一个方面：听取他人的意见，不等于抛弃自己的主见，迷失自己的原则。大家应该接纳别人的想法，同时更加笃定自己的方向，这可能就是孔子说的“和而不同”吧。

Of course, Jill Tang also mentioned another aspects: listening to others' opinions does not mean abandoning one's own opinions and losing one's own principles. We should accept other people's ideas, and at the same time more firmly determine our own direction, which may be what Confucius said "harmony but difference".

然后，唐同学以发生火灾的巴黎圣母院为例，指出一位海纳百川的人应该如何对待那些出现在微博上的各种评论。面对正面评论，大家可以认可，但也不必强迫他人一定追随;对于负面评论，更不需要通过同样负面的方式解决，可以用海纳百川的心态来调整：比如，将看待问题的角度从民族历史转到人类文明，这样很多问题就迎刃而解了。

Then, taking Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris as an example, Jill Tang pointed out how an open minded person should deal with the comments that appeared on Weibo. Faced with positive comments, we can recognize them, but we do not have to force others to follow them; For negative comments, we do not need to solve them in the same negative way, we can adjust the mentality of open minded: for example, we can change the perspective of seeing problems from national history to human civilization, so many problems will be solved.

最后，唐同学呼吁，世界是座大花园，需要大家共同建设，让我们每个人怀着一颗海纳百川的心，这不仅是大家成为全球公民的先决条件，更会让我们的世界变得愈加美好!

Finally, Jill Tang said that the world is a big garden, and we need to build it together. Let each of us have an open minded heart. This is not only a prerequisite for everyone to become a global citizen, but also a better world for us.
