The M.S. program in Sustainable Transportation & Logistics is a 30-credit, full-time, three-semester program. The curriculum consists of five courses that are designed to provide a common platform of relevant engineering principles & practices, coupled with managerial concepts & practices. The program is designed to provide ample opportunities for learning state-of-the-art knowledge and industry best-practices, validated with industry interactions.

Course Curriculum

The degree culminates in one of two options: Comprehensive Exam (all-course option) or the Master’s Thesis. Although the all-course option, which requires 30 credit hours of coursework and a comprehensive exam, is the recommended path for most Masters’ students, a student, with approval of his/her permanent advisor has the opportunity to choose a thesis as the culminating experience.

The typical employment positions that a graduate in this field may seek are:

• Logistics engineers and managers,
• Transportation planners, engineers and managers,
• Positions in retail & distribution centers, state departments of transportation (like NYSDOT), airline, rail & shipping firms, freight forwarders and other logistics service providers,
• Third- and fourth party logistics (3PL & 4PL) service providers,
• Consulting firms, firms like IBM and Google, who are now active in cutting-edge transportation research and activities, and
• A plethora of manufacturing and service firms that employ their own warehouses, fleet of trucks and privately operated distribution networks, etc.

Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions. English Language Requirements: The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 185.
