2019年3月6日，美国佛蒙特州第81任州长Hon.Peter Shumlin为上海师范大学附属第二外国语学校师生和家长带来一场“青少年全球公民意识的培养”讲座。

On the 6th of March, the Hon. Peter Shumlin, the 81st Governor of the state of Vermont, gave a lecture at our school on “Global Citizenship of the Youth”to teachers, students and parents of our school.

Hon.Peter Shumlin亲切的讲解到，他出生的年代唤起他对社会责任的意识，也成为他竞选州长的动力。当选后，他签署了能源法案(关于关停传统高能耗能源企业，开发新能源的法案)，保护环境。通过Hon.Peter Shumlin的介绍，我校学生了解到气候变暖让吸食麋鹿血液的昆虫繁殖加快，冰川地区的很多鱼类濒临灭绝，由此领悟了“全球公民意识”。一个学生感慨的说：“每个人文明的一小步，将会通过蝴蝶效应，放大成整个人类文明的一大步。”

He explained that, given the era in which he was born, it aroused within him a social responsibility, and became his motivation for running for governor. After his election, he signed the energy bill – a bill to shut down traditional energy-intensive enterprises, and develop new energy sources – in order to protect the environment. The students learned, through his lecture, that Global Warming results in the accelerated reproduction of insects that feed on the blood of Elk deer, and many fish species in the glacier regions are on the verge of extinction. This gave a whole world perspective and awareness to the students. One student sighed with emotion and said: “ It is the small steps taken by every nation which will have an effect on the entire civilization through the butterfly effect.”

Hon.Peter Shumlin在谈到“领导力培养”的问题时，他说每个人的见解都会有所不同，他希望学生主动参与到有帮助需要的社区，去成为一个全球公民，好的领导力一定有一颗探索世界的心，一双努力把想法变成行动的腿，一双将创新扎根于实践的手。

When referring to the issue of “Leadership Development” Hon.Peter Shumlin explained that everyone’s opinions differ to some extent. His hope is that students can take the initiative to participate in assisting communities in need, and become global citizens. Good leaders must have a heart to explore the world and the will and the way to transform ideas into actions in innovative ways.

The Hon. Peter Shumlin’s speech received warm applause and he reluctantly left our school. He eagerly expects to come to our school next time and witness the growth of our students!
