一学期一次的上师大附二外国际部科学展，就像一场学术盛宴，让人酣畅淋漓，大饱眼福，这次嘴巴也能过把瘾了。

This once-a-semester American High School Department Science Fair is like an academic feast. It is like a banquet for the mind and the eyes. This time, we had the opportunity to literally taste something with our mouths too.

上师大附二外国际部每次的科学展都源自科学组老师布置的课后作业。但这次同学们研究的主题“撞车”现象极少。“肺的功能”、“人的演化史”、“婴儿40周成长”、“细胞壁”、“线粒体”;“力的作用”、“橡胶车”、“空气大炮制作”“豆腐制作”等等让人眼花缭乱。好玩的“大象牙膏”让人印象深刻;亲手制作的杏仁味口红让人跃跃欲试;子弹打不穿却一捏就碎的鲁伯特之泪让人感叹物体结构的神奇。

Each Science Fair is based on homework assigned by the science teachers. The study themes that students picked this time vary from one to another. The displays are dazzling: “Lung Function”, “Human Evolution”, “Infant Growth at 40 weeks”, “Cell Walls”, “Mitochondria”, “The Effect of Force”, “Rubber Cars”, the making of Air cannons and tofu, are all among the varied displays. The fun “Elephant Toothpaste” aroused everyone’s attention and they were also interested to try out the handmade almond- flavored lipstick. The fragile looking Rupert’s tears, which have mystified many for so long and can withstand the blows of a gunshot while can be easily broken by fingers, caused people to sigh with wonder at the structure of this object.

这届科学展的评委比往年更严格，是按照大学选拔人才的标准在评审项目。其中一个老师告诉我校记者：“我们不看花哨，我们通过学生的展示观察学生的品格。比如制作鲁伯特之泪的项目，看似简单，实则考验学生的恒心，玻璃的熔点不固定，但要得到一颗鲁伯特之泪，这个学生至少需要烧3个小时。”

This year’s judges are stricter than in previous years. Their criteria are stringent and based on those which universities would employ to select talented students. One of the teachers told our school reporter: “We don’t look for fancy posters or pretty pictures. Our objective is to test the character of the students based on their presentations. For example: The project which made the Prince Rupert’s Drops seems like a simple one. In fact, it tests the perseverance of the students, as the melting point of glass is not a fixed temperature. In order to produce one of these magic drops, the student needs to burn the ingredients for at least 3 hours.”

老师们经过紧锣密鼓的统计评审结果，在周一的升旗仪式上，最终评选出许多优秀奖项，对学生以示鼓励!

After a rigorous statistical review of the results, the teachers presented the final selection to the students at the flag-raising ceremony on Monday. Many awards were presented which encouraged the students a lot.

去年获得世界**大学offer的同学曾坦言：“感谢学校安排丰富多彩的项目给我们，让我们在申请的过程中有非常多的选择，可以全方位的展示自己。”一点一滴的努力凝结成智慧的结晶，科学展举办的也越来越好。在未来，我校会在恰当时机甄选相应项目带领学生在校外参加比赛，冲出学校，走出国门!让我们共同努力，加速这一天的到来吧!

One of our students who received an offer letter from a top-ranking university last year, spoke candidly to us: “Thank you to the school for arranging such a rich variety of projects for us, enabling us to have many opportunities to showcase our talents and abilities.”

The efforts of the students have served to reinforce their knowledge, thus ensuring that the Science Fair just keeps getting better and better. In the future, our school hopes to select appropriate projects in order for the students to participate in inter-school competitions, at home and abroad. Let us all work together to accelerate the arrival of that day!
