上师大附二外国际部成功举办次全体家长会

近期,上师大附二外剑桥双语部和美高部召开了新学年**次全体家长会,虽然两个学部各有千秋,但均是符合学部发展文化和历史习惯,因而都受到家长的好评。除此之外,两学部老师的指导与解答有异曲同工之妙。

Recently, the CIS and the ISD held their first parent meeting of the new school year. Although, these two branches of our school are different and each has their own merits, they are both united in the same goal of developing a strong educational culture and a good academic record. The parents reacted positively to the opportunity to meet the teachers and interestingly, the teachers from both departments had very similar answers and advice.

高分不“捧”,总结经验,更上一层楼

面对各方面表现优异的学生,老师劝诫家长不要轻易的赋予物质奖励,带学生到书店去买几本书、满足孩子一次合理的请求,甚至家人互相拥抱,就可以当作奖励了。我们更应该帮助孩子分析卷面的得失情况,总结经验,扬长避短,乘胜前进,为下一次的考试“更上一层楼”打下扎实的基础。

High marks in examinations don’t necessarily reflect on one’s experience but can encourage students to scale to new heights. In the case of students who excel in many aspects, teachers exhorted the parents not to give material gifts as rewards, but rather to take the child to the bookstore to choose a few books, maybe satisfy reasonable requests by the child, but above all, the reward of family love can also be viewed as a good reward. We should also help the children to analyze the examination, the gains and losses, strengths and weaknesses. Use the strengths to their advantage and know how to strengthen the weak places in order to lay a solid foundation, so that the next tests can help take them to a higher level.

低分不“棒”,吸取教训,再蹬新台阶

这里的“棒”是棍棒,训斥,挖苦等等。老师建议家长要先在语言上给予安慰与鼓励,教育学生只要尽力发挥了,就应“胜固言喜败亦欣”,然后调查情况,是思想上不重视、还是学习方法不对、抑或是考试时间未能合理分配等等,同时,针对书卷情况,找出不足与差距,给予恰如其分的评价与鼓励,指出今后的努力方向。

Learn from your mistakes and set higher goals.

Students with low scores should not be reprimanded. Teachers advised parents to comfort and encourage learners. As long as students have done their best, they should not lose heart. Parents and students can then together investigate the situation, whether it is psychological in nature, whether the study methods are ineffective or the examination time is not reasonably allocated etc. At the same time, identify the gaps in knowledge, give appropriate evaluation and encouragement and point out to the child the direction in which they should exert greater efforts in the future.

理智评价,定下目标,引导与鼓励同步

赏识而不袒护,心理学有个词语叫“最近发展区”,就是说我们在帮孩子制定下一步的目标时,可以定得比孩子的实际能力高出一点,引导孩子“跳一跳,摘果子”。但我们应该明白这个目标不是“军令状”,不是死命令,平时应多在精神上鼓励孩子,在学习上、生活上多关心、过问孩子的情况,让孩子学得愉快、考得轻松。

In Psychology, there is a concept known as the Zone of Proximal Learning which explores the value of knowledge-based tests as a means of gauging students’ intelligence. This zone is an area of learning that occurs when a student is assisted by a teacher with a higher skill set. We encourage the child to set a new, realistic goal, a little higher than their present ability, but not unattainable. We then encourage the child to attempt this work individually and provide less and less guidance as they attain more and more of their goals independently. The child should not dread a negative outcome, but should rather be encouraged and supported. Children should be encouraged to ask more questions, be built up to become more confident and happy. This will help the child to study harder and be more comfortable taking tests.

Our school has always advocated a “beautiful campus, a rich curriculum and an advanced educational perspective”; the three can also be applied to families- “establishing a warm and welcoming family environment, create colorful learning activities and cultivate a culture of lifelong learning together.” We believe that the future of students will be better if the parents support and complement the efforts of the teachers. The parent teacher meeting was successful, and we not only want to thank the teachers but also the logistics team of the school which ensured the day went smoothly.
